From all these years of drinking and researching about coffee, I realized one thing: there are plenty of varieties of coffee drinks and it never gets boring!
My latest attempt to fancy up my afternoon iced latte was with the amazing flower and plant – lavender!
I was sitting one afternoon in my sister’s garden, full of lavender plants, drinking my regular (although stronger than the usual) latte, and the aroma of my coffee and the lavender flowers mixed in my nostrils perfectly.
My brain immediately responded with: Let’s make coffee with lavender.
So I did the research, got to know that it’s safe, and the next day I enjoyed the amazing, heavenly good Lavender Coffee!
I’ve got my recipe for Iced Lavender Coffee, and some useful tips, but first, let’s see what are the benefits of the lavender.
Health benefits of lavender

Many of you already know of the aromatherapy benefits of lavender.
This plant has amazing healing properties towards anxiety, stress, trouble sleeping, skin care, inflammation and infections.
1. Lavender is used in aromatherapy
The fragrance from the oils of the lavender plant is believed to help promote calmness and wellness. It’s also said to help reduce stress, anxiety, and possibly even mild pain. A study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that topically applying lavender, plus sage and rose, could reduce the severity of menstrual cramps.
2. Lavender helps with sleeping disorders and insomnia
Today, aromatherapists use lavender to treat headaches and nervousness or restlessness. Massage therapists sometimes apply lavender oil to the skin, which might function both as a calming agent and a sleep aid. In Germany, lavender tea has been approved as a supplement to treat sleep disruptions, restlessness, and stomach irritation.
3. Skin and hair conditions
When applied to the skin, lavender oils have shown positive results in helping with eczema, acne, sunburns, and diaper rash
Topical use of lavender oil might help to treat a disease called alopecia aerate, which causes a person’s hair to fall out in patches. In one study, people rubbed the essential oils of lavender, thyme, rosemary, and cedar wood on the areas where hair had fallen out. Some people experienced hair regrowth over the course of seven months. However, there was no way for the researchers to determine which of the oils was responsible.
Incorporating this essential oil or plant into your day-to-day is nothing of a disadvantage to you. You’ll only benefit with an easier, more relaxed lifestyle. That is also to be said about a number of essential oils.
But why adding lavender to your coffee?

Turns out, lavender can easily tame that jittery over-caffeinated feeling you might experience after your morning coffee.
The coffee with a little bit of lavender will create a great balance of calmness and relaxation while keeping your energy and productivity that caffeine provides, allowing the coffee to have even better effect.
Basically, the lavender balances out any chance of over-caffeinating your body, so you receive the perfect amount of energy.
Studies show between the hours of 8AM and 9AM, your body is in stress mode (cortisol awakening response), making caffeine a bit of an overload once it kicks in.
But anyway, I wouldn’t miss my morning cup, just saying.
Now, the important thing!
How to make lavender coffee?

The addition of a lavender syrup, milk, or a few drops of oil allows the body to only take the amount of caffeine needed, without the body becoming overwhelmed.
In my recipe, I decided to use fresh lavender, because it was what I had available, but you can use dried lavender, lavender oil, or lavender milk.
Apart from the lavender, you will need coffee beans, coffee brewer, and milk of your choice.
Lavender Iced Latte Recipe

Ingredients
- 1/2 tsp of fresh lavender flower buds
- single or double shot of espresso
- milk of your choice
Directions
- Prepare your coffee
- Cut off few lavender buds and press them gently in the glass
- Add ice as you desire
- Gently pour the coffee which is cooled down by now.
- Fill the glass with milk enough to cover the ice, mix little bit and enjoy your Iced Lavender Latte!
Useful tips for your lavender coffee
If you use fresh lavender as I did, the buds will stay in the drink, but they will float on the surface, so it’s better if you drink it with a straw, reusable if possible, because you know, we need to take care of the environment.
But you are safe if you just use the whole streak of lavender, because it will stay neatly in the glass as a flavor enhancer and beautiful decoration.
For hot cup of coffee, just add few lavender in the coffee beans you want to brew, and you will still get subtle lavender flavor that will fancy up your afternoon coffee.
Add frothed milk, and there you have a lavender flavor cappuccino or latte, depending on the amount of milk you will add.

Final words from me
I love the coffee for being so versatile, even though most of the time I stick to two or three classic coffee drinks.
But, every now and then I’m surprising myself with drinks like this one, and I feel more special.
I must tell you to be careful not to put too much lavender, just few buds is more than enough.
